Queensland’s Government will attempt to reduce the state’s road tolls with a new Safety Strategy & Action Plan, unveiled in Brisbane this week.

Main Roads minister Mark Bailey presented the plan to the media on Tuesday, highlighting the fact that there are 57 initiatives expected to cost upwards to $500 million over the next few years.

One of the initiatives surrounds mobile phone use in vehicles and will allow Police to hit motorists with double demerit points if they are caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel more than once in a twelve month period.

The changes will be implemented within the next 2 years and the plan can be viewed onlineĀ here
